The 5th and 6h Year Classics students went to see a production of Sophocles’ play Oedipus in the Abbey Theatre with Mrs Waters and Mr O’Connor. This play which is on the Leaving Certificate course was an excellent production directed and adapted by Wayne Jordan. It was a very powerful production of a very challenging Greek Tragedy and the part of Oedipus was convincingly played by Barry John O’Connor. Against the background of a plague that is ravaging Thebes, the drama deals with uncovering mysteries and secrets from the past, with Oedipus actively seeking out the truth about the past which leads to his destruction and that of his family. Both students and teachers alike thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
