On Friday the 23rd of February our Senior Girls and Junior Boys teams traveled to The National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown to participate in the Ultimate Frisbee All Ireland Finals.
Our Senior Girls were pitted in a group against Santa Sabina, Muckross Park and St. Domininck’s. The girls opening game saw them facing off a very familiar opponent in the form of Muckross Park. Level at the end of normal time it took sudden death to separate the two sides. Unfortunately it was Muckross who got the crucial score condemning our girls to an opening loss which would prove costly. In their second fixture against the eventual winners Santa Sabina the JSS girls were beaten well. The last game against St. Dominick’s proved to be an easier game for the John Scottus girls as they had a comfortable 6 score win. Unfortunately this win was not enough to see them advance to the Semi Finals.
The JSS Junior Boys got their tournament underway against Colaiste Choilm X in a very entertaining game the boys ended up on the wrong side of a 6-4 scoreline. From there the group games became easier for the boys as they recorded two very comfortable wins over Colaiste Choilm Y and BCS. This was enough to qualify the boys for the All Ireland Semi Final where they faced a very fancied Gonzaga side. In a very tight edgy game the boys started well frustrating Gonzaga with some tight defending and getting the opening score. As the game progressed Gonzaga started to get on top and despite the JSS boys best efforts they could not hold them out, as their tournament ended in a 6-3 loss.
This was our first appearance at the Ultimate Frisbee All Ireland Tournament and our boys and girls teams are already looking forward to next year.
