Ar an 24 Deireadh Fómhair, chuaigh daltaí na hArdteiste go dtí Amharclann Axis i mBaile Munna chun an dráma “An Triail” a fheiceáil. Is iad na daltaí atá ag gabháil don Ghaeilge Ardleibhéal amháin a dhéanann staidéar ar shaothar Mhairéad Uí Ghráda. Tarlaíonn eachtraí an dráma sna seascaidí agus baineann sé le cailín singil a éiríonn torrach le páiste fear pósta agus leis an himeachtaí uafásacha a leanann a cinneadh chun an páiste a choimeád. Baineann an dráma le téamaí atá fós conspóideach I stair an Stáit, ‘sé sin tithe níocháin Magdalene. Is é Fíbín an compántas an léiríonn an seó agus baintear úsáid as puipéid, as maisc agus as frapaí eile chun dul i bhfeidhm ar an lucht féachana. Is é an rud is mó a ndeachaigh i bhfeidhm ar ár ndaltaí ná cé chomh bríomhar is a bhí an drama, agus an méid a thuig siad. Níl aon dabht faoi ach an buntáiste atá ann do na daltaí an dráma a fheiceáil beo.
On the 24th October the 6th Higher Level Irish students made the trip to the Axis theatre in Ballymun to see a live production of their prescribed play “An Triail” by Mairéad Ní Ghráda. The play which is set in the 1960’s, tells the story of a young single woman who becomes pregnant by a married man. The much maligned Magdalene Laundries are the backdrop to the events of the drama. Fibín is the company which produces this version of the play and the performance is enhanced by their use of puppets and masks as well as other props. Our students were impressed with the sheer vitality of the production, along with their own ability to follow the events of the play. There is little doubt that it is always well worth seeing the live performance to give students the chance to fully grasp the controversial nature of the play.
Ordóg in airde! A thumbs up for An Triail from Peter, Jack, Katie, Aisling, Christian and Sarah!
