Soccer
The John Scottus Boys and Girls soccer teams traveled to UCD on Wednesday the 17th of May to play a number of matches against Stratford College. A 1st Year Boys, Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Mixed Junior team all played a 7 aside game against their Stratford counter parts.
The First year boys game proved to be the closest affair, with the game locked at 0-0 after normal time the game went to a penalty shoot out. The shoot out again proved to be very even as both teams missed penalties with players from both sides feeling the pressure. In the end it was Finn Reidy in the JSS goal that proved to be the difference. His saves making sure that the boys got the win.
The Junior boys had a much more straight forward victory in their win over the Stratford Junior Boys. Their tendency to make slow starts in games continued as they conceded an early goal to go down 1-0. From this point however is was all John Scottus and within no time they were in front thanks to quickfire goals from Christian Madden and Jack Bruton. They would eventually run out 10-2 winners.
The JSS mixed team also enjoyed a comfortable win. Made mostly of 2nd and 3rd year boys and girls they proved too strong for their opponents running out 6-1 winners with Kaiya Reddy Pfeiffer, Julia Ivanova and Kito Curry particularly impressing.
The final game being played was the Junior girls match. This was the girls first soccer match after a long Hockey season. This didn’t seem to be too much of a problem for the girls as they made it four from four for the John Scottus soccer teams winning on a scoreline of 7-2
Ultimate Frisbee
The Boys and Girls Ultimate Frisbee teams traveled to Loughlinstown Sports Complex on Wednesday the 26th of April to compete in the Dublin Ultimate Frisbee League Finals. Both the Girls and Boys started very brightly by comfortably winning their semi finals. The boys overcame Gonzaga B 7 – 2 and the Girls got the better of Muckross B 6 – 3.
Unfortunately both sides came up against stiffer opposition in their finals and lost out despite valiant efforts.
Athletics
On Tuesday the 2nd and Thursday the 4th of May the John Scottus Athletics team traveled to Santry to compete in the East Leinster Athletics Championships. Fifteen students competed over the two days along with students from over 80 different schools. All students competed excellently in their events. However particular mention needs to be given to the 1st year Boys relay team who qualified from their heat of 6 schools. They then followed this up with a 5th place finish in the final. Julia Ivanova continued her run of impressive results in Athletics events by finishing a very impressive 3rd in the Junior Girls 1500m.
Hockey
The final Girls Junior Hockey match of the year took place in Herbert Park astro pitch on Thursday the 18th of May. The girls played their first ever game against Conleth’s Junior Hockey team. In a very exiting game in which the JSS girls produced lots of scoring opportunities they came out on top as 2-0 winners. Goals from Nina Howden and Tove Murphy were enough to secure the victory in the girls final game of the season.
