This term has been a very busy one for sport in John Scottus.
The schools ultimate Frisbee teams have got off to an excellent start in their opening fixture of the year. A Senior Girls and Mixed Junior team made the short trip to Muckross college where a blitz was held. The JSS Junior team got off to a difficult start losing their first game. Aa huge improvement in performance saw them only lose their second game by a point and then comfortably defeat St Dominic’s Junior team. The JSS Senior girls team got off to an excellent start comfortably beating St. Domimic’s and Muckross’s Junior teams.
During the current term John Scottus students also competed in the Blackrock Cross Country Invitational event. Over 20 students travelled to Blackrock to run races that varied between 1.2 and 5 kilometers depending on age and race entered. It turned out to be a really enjoyable day for all involved with hundreds of students from all parts of Dublin competing on the day. Some notable results for JSS students were Julia Ivanova finishing 9th and Jasmine Gallagher finishing 11th in their respective races. Finn Reidy also came home in the top half in a 1st year race containing almost 130 competitors.
The newly reformed Boys hockey team has been training hard on Wednesday afternoons and have played their opening two matches of the season. The first game was a 4-0 defeat and really gave the boys an idea of the standard they had to reach.
The most recent game finished in a 3-1 defeat but really gave the boys a chance to showcase how far they have come. An extremely open affair with chances galore at both ends made for a very enjoyable game to watch.
After a very narrow 2-1 loss in their opening game the JSS Girls Hockey team had an excellent 2-0 win against Kings Hospital of Lucan. Tove Murphy and Kaiya Reddy Pfeiffer scored the decisive goals for the girls who have put themselves in an excellent position of the remainder of their group.
The end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 will be just as busy for sport in JSS. Athletics and Cross Country training is now running on Monday evenings. Ultimate Frisbee training will continue to run on Tuesday after school and Boys and Girls Hockey training will take place on Wednesday afternoons as both teams prepare for their remaining league fixtures.
