Soccer: u15 and u17 Girls Advance in Leinster Leagues

Our u15 and u17 Girls Soccer teams have advanced to the knockout stages of their respective Leinster league competitions. Our u17 team came 3rd in their group, meaning they moved on to the Division 3 knockout rounds. Our u15 Girls won all 3 of their group games and advance to the knockout stages of Leinster Division 1 league, which is a wonderful achievement for the girls. Please see below the match reports for the u15 girls’ last two games.

John Scottus vs. Rathdown School: 3 – 1

Our under-15 girls’ soccer team continued their winning streak in the competition with a second consecutive victory. With a strong wind at their backs, the girls quickly opened the scoring within ten minutes thanks to a strike from Annalia Halford. Rathdown fought back and created several good chances, but Akshatha Keerthi in goal made sure the JSS lead remained intact. Later in the second half, Zoe Van Den Bergh sprinted through to connect with a pass from midfield, doubling the girls’ lead.

The second half proved to be more challenging for the team as they played against a strong wind. Charlotte Stafford and Sophia Reid formed a formidable centre-back pairing, making several crucial tackles, blocks, and clearances. After a strong clearance from our defence, brilliant work from Anna Kelly saw her chip the ball over the goalkeeper’s head, leaving Zoe Van Den Bergh with an easy finish for her second goal of the game.

Despite more pressure from Rathdown, the girls held on, and the match ended with a score of 3-1 in favour of JSS, securing their place in the knockout round of the competition.

John Scottus U15 Girls vs. Blackrock ETSS: 2 – 0

The John Scottus U15 Girls put in another excellent performance against Blackrock ETSS, securing a 2-0 victory. The first half showcased the team’s enthusiasm and work rate that we have seen in previous matches. Anna Kelly scored both goals in the opening half through good assists from Annalia Halford and Isabelle Kelleher.

Continuing their strong showing in the second half, the girls maintained control of the game, with opportunities to extend their lead. Both Anna Kelly and Annalia Halford came close to adding to the scoreline but were unable to find the net. Excellent work from Erin Harding and Lunasa Fox at the back meant the JSS girls always looked assured in defence.

The match finished 2-0, meaning the John Scottus girls top their group with an impressive three wins from three matches, earning them a place in the Leinster U15 Division One knockout stages.
