Science week started off with a bang at assembly, Ms. Cronin and Alex Balami demonstrated the captivating ‘Whoosh Bottle’ experiment. The students had the opportunity to see how a huge amount of energy can be produced from the combustion of an alcohol.
Science was everywhere as the school walls were decorated with interesting Science Facts and with a large Periodic Table display that captured the attention of many.
Throughout the week 6th year students gave a presentation to 1st to third years each day during the week. They spoke about a topic in science that interests them. They gave presentations on topics about radioactivity, asteroids, static electricity and they were also introduced to some science songs. Special thanks to Aisling, Alex, Damien, Drew, Natasha, Nicolas and Tess for all their help.
At Thursdays assembly Mr. Brady, Damien and Drew spoke about static electricty and showed them a Van de Graaff generator. A number of students were eager to try it out and start the day with a
new hair style!
2Y students also had the opportunity to speak to scientists. The eager students got a great insight into the scientist’s experiences when working in the science field.
