The theme for Philosophy Week was ‘The Whole World is Family.’
The idea is that a real family is bound together by love, affection, and sacrifice, and we cannot ignore even one family member, especially when they are in trouble or need our support. The same is true for Humanity as a Family.
The week began with an assembly talk by Declan Fitzmaurice. He gave a down-to-earth speech on the theme of ‘The Whole World is Family’ with personal examples and suggestions on how to make this real.
During class, the teacher and students continued to explore the theme by designing creative drawings to represent the theme.
The week culminated with presentations of the best projects in our Philosophy festival. We must congratulate the overall winners who were selected by popular vote:
Senior Cycle Overall Winner
Adam Maguire and Camron Farrelly: Were humans born to inherit the earth
Junior Overall Winner:
Layla Dowling: Does AI take the artistry out of Art
Junior Runner Up
Jack Woods, Erin Harding, William Hance: Does sport help academics
In addition, we must congratulate all students who presented and students from all classes who presented to their peers.
In addition, the Fifth-Year group went to Townley Hall for an overnight philosophical retreat. They organised their activities and did their shopping to look after themselves. They broke into teams to set up, cook and clear away meals. Also, they ran various activities such as Speed dating, Yoga, a walk to the river Boyne at the crack of dawn, improvisation playlets with winners, and feedback through drawings and short speeches. The feedback from students was very positive, and they thoroughly enjoyed the event.
