Philosophy Day Trip to Townley Hall

A group of our 5th years went to Townley Hall as part of our Philosophy week to discover more about the meaning of “Darkness to Light”.

During the day took part in a number of activities such as the “Trust Activity”, “Stepping Stones” and “Escape the Circle”.

Here are some observations of the day:

We got to do something different instead of spending just another day at school. The activities we did were very engaging and it is a much better way of understanding the meaning of ‘darkness to light’ instead of just talking about it even though it is necessary. Learning by doing and trying something new is much better than just sitting in a box and talking about it. David Shpekht

It was fun and very active and team exercises were fun. Adam Kopik

Because it was a day without concerns together with friends and especially because of the activities and the conversation afterwards. It made me realise things that I hadn’t noticed before, such as how we can trust each other as a group and also work together for the benefit of all of us. It was a really smart and fun way to show us that and I’m grateful I chose to go. Higor Ramos Ramalho

I liked the group I was with and the small amount of teachers made for a more casual and open experience. I learned a lot about the group that came with us through the various activities completed. It was overall a fun day, an experience to learn from and a fond memory. There was a great sense of good-will and trust towards each other. I am excited to go again next year. Tommy Garland

I enjoyed it because it was a great bonding experience and I got to spend time with people outside of school and studying. I realised I could actually prepare a salad which I didn’t know. Jack Skortsov

I enjoyed doing all the activities. And it helped me to trust my classmates more and learn more about them. Jeffrey Skortsov

I enjoyed it because it was a nice break from our school daily cycle. I got to know everyone better and there was a sense of responsibility on everyone to cook and clear up. Richard Shpekht

It was fun and enjoyable while at the same time being thought-provoking and a good learning experience. We learned while actively taking part in the tasks and interacting with each other. My favorite part was how we all bonded together, worked as a group (I think every person felt part of the team) and there was a perfect balance between fun (the tasks), reflection and responsibility (making and clearing lunch). Aisling Spratt

I enjoyed the day because it was a good chance to relax and talk to people, it was nice to have a break from school. I think the activities were a really good bonding with the rest of the class. I wish it was longer. I also liked the group that went and I liked that it was a small amount of people. I really enjoyed the day and you also got to see people outside of school and what they are like then. Sarah Hoffman
