A parenting course for parents in the early years of the secondary school is being run at the moment by Dr. Michael Telford, former Principal of the School. He has run many courses for parents in previous years, but this is of six weeks duration, for one hour each Tuesday morning at 08:00! This allows parents who are dropping off their youngsters to delay their journey into work and find time to attend. The first meeting involved an investigation into ‘What does healthy development of a teenager look like?’ This leads into other areas in future weeks, as follows:
- The teenage years- what does healthy growth in these years look like?
- Reason; Responsibility, Independence; Respect; Teenage tension.
- Cultivating strength of mind; motivation, persistence, stress; following the crowd – peer pressure; Understanding bullying.
- Best communication between parent and son/daughter; power of listening and how; responsibility for every word spoken. The Habit of good conversation.
- Speaking through screens: txt; internet;TV measures;
- The emotional and mental health of this age-group; self-esteem; depression; supports; the teenage brain.
This will be very interactive, entertaining and informative!
