The Senior boys soccer team traveled to Sallynoggin to take on Holy Child Community school. The game started off a cagey affair with neither side wanting to give up early chances. Mid way through the first half James Woods picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and traveled unchallenged to the edge of the box. When the Sallynoggin defenders failed to close him down he curled a fine right footed effort into the corner of the goal. Conceding a goal seemed to be the kick start Sallynoggin needed and from that point they burst into life. Richard Shpekht and Cian Doherty had their hands full at centre back containing the lively Sallynoggin attack. However moments before half time their pressure paid off and a ball in behind allowed a close range effort which gave Nathan Boissier in the John Scottus goal no chance.
The second half saw more Sallynoggin pressure with the John Scottus defence working very hard to keep the sides level. It was John Scottus however who were the ones to take the lead. Jack Bruton raced through and latched on to a ball over the top and when his initial shot was saved Christian Madden was on hand to steer in the rebound. From there on John Scottus shored up the defence and remained comfortable. In the dying minutes they added a third. James woods got on the end of a Cian Doherty free kick to get his second of the game and seal the win.
The month of May saw the East Leinster Athletics Championships take place in Morton Stadium in Santry. Students from the John Scottus athletics team traveled up to Santry to take part in a variety of track and field events. All students had a very enjoyable day with some excellent results for many of our competitors.
Both Nathan Bossier and Mila Pfeiffer Reddy qualified from their heats in the Sprint events, coming 5th in their respective Semi finals. Mila also came 5th in the long jump competition. Aisling Spratt ran a very good race in the Senior Girls (u19) 1500m coming 8th. Both Brian Kavanagh and Julia Ivanova performed excellently in their events finishing 4th, just one place outside the medal placings. Brian was competing in the Senior (u19) Shott Putt and Julia was running the u16 Mile.
Julia’s excellent performance in the u16 Mile was good enough to qualify her for the Leinster final on 16th of May. This is a great achievement to qualify and to get the opportunity to compete against the best athletes in Leinster.
