So often we hear young students ask the question, “What do I do with my life” or “what was I
made for.” They need a sense of direction and understanding of what it means to realize their
greatest selves and do great work in their lives.
To help answer these questions, our 5th years attended a 3 day workshop last November and December run by O School Google.
The program is based on th collective knowledge and research of
brilliant thinkers across great organizations. It designed to help students think about how they might design their lives to advance their human potential and make an impact in the world.
It investigates 3 key areas:
- The Inner: Understanding your holistic intelligence and internal compass. It looks at the
questions: Who am I beyond my mind made self, where does my peace and potential lie, how does the quietest part of myself contribute to my sense of clarity, creativity, problem solving, dot-connecting and compassion; What are my innate talents and what am I passionate about. - The Outer: Understanding your external world and where it’s going. It looks at the questions: How can I think creatively about my further education, vocation and career; What will the world look like 20-50 years from now and what’s my role in that; What problems can I solve that would really make life better for others.
- Crafting the Mission: Connecting inner and outer. It looks at the questions: How can I connect my inner purpose, passion and talent to my outer world – so that I may live a meaningful life and move people forward through my work; How can I use new thinking and mindfulness practices to actively pursue the direction that is aligned with who I am.
The feedback from students was very positve and we hope that is has inspired them to see the world anew, they will have the thinking tools to craft their lfe mission and they will know that they are needed for something bigger than what they are.
