DD-television –a national Broadcasting station for India- asked John Scottus Primary School to perform a famous poem by Adi Shankara with Western Music.
This is to coincide with Shiva-rátri, a famous Hindu festival celebrated last Tuesday all over India and Nepal.Fran Dempsey wrote the music and the pupils from 5th and 6th class performed.
This 8th Century poem arose when Adi Shankara was asked who he was. This was when he was just eight years old. The content of this poem is his reply to that question. He then asked the man he addressed could he become Adi Shankara’s guru.
