As the Fifth years are studying Hamlet for their Leaving Certificate English course it is always a great idea to see the bard’s work in action. This was made possible by the National Theatre’s live screening of the play to over thirty cinema screen’s world-wide.
What is unusual though is that the students were so taken by Benedict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet that they asked to see it twice. I, their English teacher, was more than happy to oblige!
The set, the actors ,the projection of the language was stupendous and the National Theatre put on an immense performance. Even though the students were sitting in a movie theatre in Dublin as the actors strutted the boards in London it really felt like you were in the midst of conflict, love and inner torment that is the play, Hamlet.
It was a wonderful experience and one that we will all hold dear in our hearts.
