Geography Field Trip

On Wednesday October 5th, 8 sixth year geography students ventured on their first geographical field study. We departed school bright and early and headed down to Kippure Estate in Co. Wicklow to complete a study on a meander in the middle course of the River Liffey. Students were first briefed about equipment and methods they will be carrying out. They then headed out to be booted up in their waders. Following a short, steep and slippy hill climb we reached the study site and carried out a number of methods from measuring river velocity to measuring sinuosity. Students confidently plunged themselves straight into the river and carried out their methods. After about 3 hours in the field and with only one minor slip, the students returned to the classroom to discuss their methods and review what went well and what could be done to improve their methods. Students really enjoyed being in the field and living geography.
