First Year boys and girls attended a creative writing workshop at Fighting Words on Tuesday 15 December.Fighting Words is a creative writing workshop set up by Roddy Doyle and and Sean Love.
The session began with a short drama improvisation and broadened into the beginning of a story created by the whole class. As soon as it became apparent that the story was developing along individual lines, the students began to work on their own or in pairs.
The result was a collection of imaginative, hilarious, and entertaining pieces of writing. The students enjoyed reading out their work and the audience was very appreciative.
Here is what some students had to say about their experience:
‘I never thought that I could write creatively.’
‘I work better with someone else and it is more fun,’
‘It was a great help to be given a scenario to start from.’
