On Thursday the 26th of January athletes from John Scottus traveled to Avondale in Co. Wicklow for the East Leinster Cross Country Championships. In spite of the cold and blustery conditions a great day was had. All students performed excellently on the day finishing in the top half of their respective races.
However the performance of the day came from Julia Ivanova who won the Junior B girls event. Julia started strongly and found herself in 4th place at the halfway point in the race. However it was here that Julia took control. Coming up the hill which in a laps time would become the home straight Julia powered into the lead, a position she would make her own for the last 750m. A tight finish made the last 50m difficult to watch but Julia always had enough in reserve to ensure she would not be denied the win.
A great result for Julia and a great boost for all the students competing on the day.
