On Thursday the 22nd of March our junior boys and senior girls Frisbee teams traveled to Loughlinstown to compete in the Dublin Ultimate Frisbee League finals. In a knockout competition and with 8 teams in each division it was straight into the quarter finals for both teams.
The junior boys were first up as they faced Hartsown in their opening fixture. What began as a very close affair finished with a good win for the JSS boys as they qualified for the Semi finals with a 6-2 win.
The Semi Final saw John Scottus paired up against Gonzaga 2. This semi final proved to be a real nail biter as the boys required a late Devang Mehta reception from an ambitious Nathan Boissier pass to win the game 6-5.
The final saw the boys face off against a extremely strong Gonzaga 1 side. The boys battled hard and at the halfway point were marginally behind with a score of 4-3. Unfortunately Gonzaga pulled ahead to win at the final whistle.
Our senior girls were next up and they began their tournament against St. Dominic’s. The JSS girls started strongly and won their opening game 7-3 with four 3rd year girls playing their first ever competitive Frisbee game.
The semi-final saw the girls drawn against Muckross Jnrs. The game was neck and neck throughout and finished level at 5-5. Overtime followed and the John Scottus girls responded excellently with Alicia McManus getting a great score to win the game.
The girls progressed to the final where they faced a very familiar Muckross Snr side. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the JSS girls as they lost out in the final..
At the end of each game teams score each other on their “spirit” throughout the game. This is comprised of knowledge of the rules, fairness in play and how enjoyable they are to play against. At the end of the tournament an overall winner is announced from each division. This year the JSS girls won this prize for their division which is just rewards for the kindness and positive attitude they bring to all the games they play.
