Over the past number of weeks, in Career Guidance class, the sixth year students have been visited by two scientists, Mike Wride and Claudia Gomez.
Mike Wride is an assistant professor in the school of Natural Science at Trinity College Dublin. He asked the students to reflect on what they love and what fascinates them and to focus on this interest in relation to college and career choices.
Claudia Gomez is a Computational Physicist, also working in Trinity College, who is involved with STEM , a government initiative, promoting careers and third level studies in SMART FUTURES involving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
Both speakers promoted the creative aspect of science. They expressed the significant need for curious reflective people to be involved in the world of science and technology and how both are intrinsic to the world we live in today. They encouraged the students to ask questions, reflect and become active in the world around them.
The talks were engaging and the students found the many and varied fields of science and technology exciting and motivating.
Thanks to both speakers for their time, enthusiasm and abundance of knowledge in their fields.
