Science Inspection
Wednesday 27th January
The Secondary School was inspected for Science by the Department of Education and Science on Wednesday. The Inspector met all the Science teachers after it and said that the results of the inspection were ‘really, really, really good!’ She also said that in relation to the learning experience of the children in the School and in relation to the teaching practices, she had not written down the word ‘excellent’ so many times on the one sheet for some years. She was very pleased indeed and the Report will reflect that satisfaction.
|
Congratulation to the teaching staff of the JS Science Department, and also to the pupils, who participate actively in the Science lessons. The Report will be published on the school website when it becomes available.

This year’s BT Young Scientist exhibition was probably the best science experience I have ever got. We arrived early in the morning at about 10 am. We hung up all our posters. The scientists that were chosen were Isaac Newton, Alexandra Volt and Thomas Edison. Some of the experiments that were shown were electric circuit, the potatoe cannon and so. We were split into groups of 4 and were allowed to go and explore the exhibition. We visited IBM which are a computer company. We visited Google, the European Union and the Irish Health Centre. There was quite a lot of free stuff. The free stuff included Squiggy hearts, rubbers, chains, yo yo’s, Tie clips and so on. My favourite project was the attack of the germs. It shows all the germs on your hand before you wash your hands. They showed the outcome on nutrient aga. We went to see a BMX show and then saw a primary school show. After that we went back to school. When we returned it was 3 pm. Conor Wakely. |
